Profile

Senior software engineer and architect with more than ten years of project experience building business-critical Java enterprise applications. My industry focus is banks and building societies and public sector bodies — grown system landscapes with many consuming systems, where changes have to remain backward compatible.

The past seven years continuously at a major credit institution: overall technical ownership as application manager for several applications, ongoing development of the sales application, greenfield development of several applications through to production — and recurring migration work of various kinds, from carving an application out of the monolith through platform changes to OpenShift and Azure AKS to rewriting individual integrations. Throughout in a dual role: hands-on development alongside overall technical ownership as lead or application manager.

My particular strength lies in situations with an unclear starting point: taking over error-prone legacy systems, reengineering without available source code, replacing services under strict backward compatibility, and tracing faults across application boundaries. A mathematician by training — analytical mastery of complex domains is the core of how I work. Twelve years of study and research abroad: eight in Helsinki, four in Southampton, where the doctorate was written and defended in English.

Senior / Lead Developer

Hands-on development in Java and Spring Boot, feature delivery in legacy and greenfield systems, technical leadership of small teams, code quality and refactoring.

Software Architect

Assessment of existing architectures, technical concepts, service boundaries, and support for business analysis on technically complex changes.

Application Manager

Overall technical ownership of an application including operations, monitoring, incident support, coordination with consuming systems and steering of external suppliers.

Modernisation and Migration

Breaking up monoliths, migrating from Java EE to Spring Boot, moving from VMs to OpenShift and Azure AKS, replacing third-party components.

Paying Down Technical Debt

Analysis of historically grown applications, moving error-prone implementations into sound models, structural remediation during live operation.

Selected Achievements

  • Seven consecutive years at a large banking institution, growing from senior developer to lead to application manager — already worked on the same application in 2016/2017, around ten years of familiarity with one business-critical system
  • Technical ownership of an application handling up to 90 % of customer revenue — across its full lifecycle through to controlled decommissioning
  • Migration of an event-driven application from Azure Functions to Spring Boot on AKS, designed for up to 8 million events per day
  • Enterprise-wide person search on Azure AI Search: live search with response times in the low hundreds of milliseconds and a fine-grained permission model
  • Fault-tolerant data distribution of several million records, resilient to temporary outages of the target systems
  • Bulk processing system designed for 5 million print documents per week
  • Three greenfield applications taken from the first line of code into production
  • Reengineering of a Java EE application without access to its source code
